We had a wonderful time visiting and talking stories. Soon we were wrapping up as some of the gang was going to the door we discovered that there was a small piglet in the yard!

Mike jumped for his shoes, put them on, out the door he went and looking for the pig. Well little piglet saw there was company coming and decided to be shy AND RUN!…….under the bushes’ he went. So a couple of us quickly surrounded him like an army – Mike on one side, James on another and Harmon on the other. Quick as a lightning bolted out of the bushes the piglet headed up the road. I briskly followed thinking that I can catch this critter of destruction!! Ah ha I just know I can catch him. Besides the station makes the owner pay a fine of 50 kina for their pig when on the station.

Not long I hear Harmon tell James “I’ll bet a dollar Mike cannot catch him!” Well at that point I heard the challenge even though it was not directed directly to me. So I dashed off up the road at a quick pace running part of the time. I know that if he stays on the road going straight I can corner him and possibly catch him. Piglet does just that. Off he goes in a straight line trotting looking left and right but choosing to go straight.

Piglet soon reaches the end and then quickly grunts and snorts! Then he moves to the right and gets in the corner. Ah ha I gotcha! He turns to challenge my abilities, looks at me gives a snort. I move closer thinking that when I raised pigs in Colorado I knew this pig could be fast. I get within striking distance he starts to move, I jump! Ah a miss! “Darn” he goes down the fence as I get back to my feet in quick pursuit. I catch up to him to hopefully turn him back to the corner for another chance. No he was not going to have it. He turns and hits the fence with his head. I quickly think that if I do not jump now I may not get another chance.

I jump for the back leg! Yes, success! The piglet then begins to squeal but then I roll the little female pig over and grab a front leg. You are not going to get loose now! “Now I can collect my dollar!” Well back to Dr. Bill’s house as I walk to the door Bill comes onto the porch and says “You actually caught it” Well my chest busted with pride, I looked at him and said “No problem” At that time Harmon came from around the corner and says ‘I cannot believe you caught the pig!” I told him well yes why would I not? He responded with “I never have seen a white man catch a pig!” Wow, I was thinking you have not been around a rodeo.

After Dr. Bill and I tied the piglet up I took off for security to turn the piglet in so they can get word to the owner to come and pay the fine and get their little pig.

Oh the little things that make us laugh, have fun, and give us pleasure and most of all “The Memories”.
